On May 9, a ceremony devoted to the completion of the Maiden Tower Fifth International Art Festival took place at the Small Caravanserai in Icherisheher.

The event was attended by Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and head of IDEA (International Dialogue for Environmental Action) Public Association Leyla Aliyeva, and Arzu Aliyeva.

The Festival was held by the “Icherisheher” State History and Architecture Reserve Department under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan, following the initiative and with the special support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and joint organizational support of IDEA Public Association and the Museum of Modern Art.

Traditionally held on the eve of national leader Heydar Aliyev’s birthday, the Festival aims at making contribution to promotion of the Azerbaijani culture and art, including the Maiden Tower - symbol of Baku - through works of artists coming from around the world.

28 well-known artists coming from 26 countries participated in the Festival. Having decorated mock-ups of the Maiden Tower in their national styles, they created synthesis of different cultures and traditions, and interchange thereof.

Authors informed Leyla Aliyeva of the ideological content of their works.

Head of the “Icherisheher” State History and Architecture Reserve Department Samir Nuriyev thanked President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Azerbaijan’s First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva for the care and attention shown towards implementation of the project.
