Inauguration of the Heydar Mosque takes place in Baku

Inauguration of the Heydar Mosque took place in Baku, December 26.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva and family members attended the inauguration.

The new mosque is located in an area of 12 thousand square metres. The mosque’s façade has been covered with special stones in Shirvan-Absheron architectural style. Richness of the ornaments has created special harmony in the architecture of the mosque’s facade. Four 95-metre minarets have been erected here.

With total area of 4200 square metres, the mosques interior has been decorated with special decoration elements, and ayats from Qur’an written on the edges of the dome. The central dome is 55 metres high, the second 35 metres.

The ceremony held in connection with the mosque’s opening started by reading of ayats from Qur’an.

The Head of the State addressed the ceremony.

Chairperson of the North Caucasus Muftis Coordination Council, Russian Federation’s Karachai-Cherkess mufti Ismail Berdiyev, head of the Russian Orthodox Church’s Baku and Azerbaijan Eparchy Alexander,  chairperson of the Baku Mountain Jews Religious Community Mikhail Yevdayev, authorized representative of the Caucasian Muslims Department in the Russian Federation Shafik Pshikhachev and chairperson of the Caucasian Muslims Department sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazadeh delivered a speech.

Then President Ilham Aliyev, Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva and family members arrived at the Alley of Honour to visit the graves of national leader Heydar Aliyev and eminent ophthalmologist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva.
