On November 14, Azerbaijan’s First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva became acquainted with a Rehabilitation Centre for the Disabled in the city of Antalya, Turkey.

Mehriban Aliyeva and the Foundation’s Vice-president Leyla Aliyeva were greeted at the Rehabilitation Centre by Turkey’s First Lady Emine Erdoğan.

Mehriban Aliyeva, her daughter Leyla Aliyeva, First Lady of the South African Republic Thobeka Madiba-Zuma, First Lady of Zimbabwe Grace Mugabe, Malaysian Premier Minister’s spouse Rosmah Mansor and other guests made themselves acquainted with the Centre’s operation.

First, a video film talking about the care and attention shown towards the disabled, and their integration into the society was shown.

Children being treated at the Centre greeted the guests with a cultural programme in a unique fashion. Representatives of the vulnerable stratum showed interesting performances.

Guests were given information about the Centre’s operation. They were told that this establishment was one of the biggest rehabilitation centres in Turkey. Here, parents are enlightened along with children. One of the Centre’s primary objectives is to secure integration of disabled children into the society and make sure that they participate more closely in social and cultural life.

The guests took interest in the education process at the Centre.

It was brought to attention that various circles functioned here for the disabled. Programmes on physiotherapy, speech improvement, support to children with impaired vision, hearing capacity and intellectual shortages etc. are implemented at the Centre. All conditions have been created here to ensure that specialists can deal with education of hundreds of physically and intellectually disabled children during the day. Disabled children have been provided with possibilities go in for sports at the Centre.

Rehabilitation process of the disabled at the Centre is carried out in different phases, depending on the degree of disability. State-of-the-art methods and technology is used at the Centre for the rehabilitation of the patients. Along with the rehabilitation process, moral support to the disabled is one of the priority issues in the Centre’s operation. At this preschool medical rehabilitation centre, revealing talents and abilities of the disabled children is also a focus of attention. A number of patients undergoing rehabilitation at the Centre are distinguished for their handicrafts.
