BBC Channel about the movie Ali and Nino

Director of the movie “Ali and Nino”, BAFTA winner Asif Kapadia talked to BBC Channel about the shootings of the film. The TV Channel presented fragments from the movie, and the process of its creation. 

Executive director of the movie “Ali and Nino” is Vice-president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva, with the movie’s producer being Chris Thykier and script-writer Christopher Hampton, and Academy Award winner.       

A.Kapadia told BBC that the story provided in the movie occurred in the Caucasus  - a region he had known nothing about before: "However, now it becomes known that this region is an important region against the background of events happening at the moment in the world. Here, the East meets the West, Europe meets Asia, and Muslims meet Christians. It is a very beautiful place".

It should be noted that another film- Amy- made by director A.Kapadia in 2015 has been nominated for Oscar on the category of “Best full-length film”.

Demonstration of the movie “Ali and Nino” took place in the category of “Premiere” in the framework of the international film festival “Sundance” of USA.

Filmed on the basis of the same-name bestselling novel of Gurban Said, “Ali and Nino” is the love story of two young people with different beliefs at the time of Azerbaijan’s struggle for independence and its occupation by Russia early in the 20th century. 

Main characters in the 104-minite movie are played by Adam Bakri (Ali) and Maria Valverde (Nino). Such famous actors as Halit Ergenc, Mandy Patinkin, Connie Nielsen, Riccardo Scamarcio, Homayoun Ershadi, Fakhraddin Manafov, Asad Bub, Numan Akar etc. also acted in the movie.
